Bleaching Instructions

  • Brush and floss your teeth- improper removal of plaque will not allow the bleaching gel to lighten the tooth where plaque remains.
  • Place a small amount of bleaching gel in each tooth compartment in the tray. Each syringe has calibrated treatment doses. Use approximately one dose per tray.
  • Place the bleaching tray in the mouth for approximately 1 to 2 hours.
  • After whitening, remove and rinse the trays with cold water. If necessary, use a tooth brush to remove any residual gel. Place the trays in the storage case, and do not close the storage case unless the bleaching tray is completely dry.
  • Brush excess gel from teeth.
  • Do not refrigerate.

What to Expect with Bleaching

To maintain your bleaching tray, store gel at room temperature and avoid exposure to heat or sunlight. Try to avoid coffee, dark colas and red wine, since these substances may re-stain teeth. Continue good oral hygiene throughout the treatment.

The area of the tooth closest to the gum takes longer to lighten and will remain darker than the biting edge.

Once treatment is complete, your teeth may be slightly whiter than they will remain. The final color will be achieved in approximately three weeks after finishing the whitening process.

Some patients never have to repeat the process, however; if you are acquiring some stain, you many do a touch up for a night or two every 4-6 months after you prophylaxis appointment.

Sensitivity

Avoid citrus fruits and juices because the acidity in your saliva may cause sensitivity or slow down the whitening process.

Some patients experience increased tooth sensitivity to cold during treatment . Others may have nonspecific sensitivity in their teeth, gums, tongue, lips, or throat. If any of these symptoms occur and are more than mild, discontinue the treatment on a daily basis and try every other day. Most symptoms always subside with in 5-7 days.
