About High-Tech Dentistry

Often, a dental crown is the perfect solution. Until Now!

In an ideal world, everyone would boast a perfect, lifelong set of healthy teeth. Unfortunately, disease, accidents, and other factors can make this an impossibility. Dr. Williams utilizes the latest advancements in dental technology to restore your smile.

Below, you will find all of the equipment we have at our practice. By using the highest-quality technology available, we can get more accurate readings, provide you with a more painless procedure, and reduce recovery time.

CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics) is a revolutionary system that allows Dr. Williams to design, create and fit a new crown in a single visit. While you sit comfortably, an image of your tooth is scanned into a computer specially designed for this purpose.

Using digital technology, your crown is designed to your tooth’s precise specifications. The multi-instrument CEREC system consists of an infrared digital camera, a computer with 3-D imaging software, and a milling unit with diamond blades for quick, precise, and highly detailed construction of restorations.

So what are the benefits of CEREC?

    • Single-Appointment Dental Care
    • No Temporary Restorations
    • Complete Control by Your Dentist
    • Fine Materials

No messy impressions, no temporary dental crowns, no multiple appointments. In fact, the whole procedure will probably take no more than an hour and a half.

  • Dexis® Digital X-Rays

Dr. Williams was one of the first dentists in the country to utilize digital x-rays, which have changed the way that the doctor and his staff view your teeth.

    • Safer – Allow you to get necessary care without unnecessary radiation. X-rays play an invaluable role in the diagnosis of dental problems but many people are concerned about the exposure to x-ray radiation. Digital x-rays eliminate these worries because they require approximately 90% less radiation than conventional film x-rays.
    • Better – More accurate than conventional x-rays and reveal things film can’t. The digital computer image can be magnified over 300x its normal size, making it easier for Dr. Williams to show you where and what the problem is. The digital x-rays can also be manipulated to correct contrast ratios and even color-adjusted to reveal hidden problems. If necessary, images can be electronically sent to a specialist to determine an appropriate course of action.
    • Faster – Dr. Williams is able to spend more time treating and less time processing because the digital computer images are instantaneous. Unlike procedures a decade ago, no time is wasted processing and mounting x-ray film.
    • Smarter –There is no harmful waste. Our x-ray system does not use film or chemicals, so we don’t have to worry about disposing of hazardous processing waste, which is better for the environment.

As a patient, you get safer, better, faster, smarter service without the usual increase in price. It’s just another way that Dr. Williams has been able to go above and beyond in providing our patients the very best in dental care.

  • Tekscan

The Tekscan system is a reliable and easy-to-use clinical diagnostic device that senses and analyzes occlusal contact forces using paper-thin, disposable sensors. This aids Dr. Williams in the diagnostic process of analyzing a patient’s bite and showing what is and what is not functioning properly. When a bite is unstable it can cause pain, teeth and dental restorations to crack and break, gum disease, tooth loss, headaches, and even lead to TMJ Disorder.

    • Evaluating occlusal forces is as simple as having a patient bite down on our ultra-thin sensor while the computer analyzes and displays the data.
    • Helps reduce the number of repeat visits needed to perfect occlusion. It also cuts down the amount of time needed for patients during office visits.
    • Because the T-Scan can measure force over time, it is an indispensable tool for appraising the sequential relationships of a mandibular excursion. This is instrumental in locating occlusal interferences, determining the relative force on each interference, and evaluating the potential for trauma caused by the occlusal interferences.
    • Offers many benefits that are impossible to obtain from articulating paper, the traditional diagnostic procedure. The only proven way to obtain timing and force of occlusal contacts is with the Tekscan system. As evidenced in research, articulating paper only provides tooth locations; it cannot display time or force.

  • CariVu Caries Detection

More and more patients place value on healthy and attractive teeth. In order to maintain them, the earliest possible care is essential. CariVu Caries Detection is the revolutionary new way to find even the smallest areas of tooth decay. By using this new technology, Dr. Williams and his staff are able to target and treat all of your small problem areas before they turn into larger issues that require more complicated procedures.

    • Simple, fast and painless examination
    • An extremely reliable diagnostic aid
    • Early detection of pathological changes, e.g. initial lesions, demineralization, and changes in the enamel, fissure caries
    • Allows the dentist to detect invisible carries that lie under intact enamel
    • The CariVu Caries Detection augments the dentist’s eye and digital x-rays: 90% of all cases of decay are identified

  • VELscope Vantage System

The VELscope Vantage System is the only oral cancer screening system commercially available today. Dr. Williams and his hygienists use this tool to enhance the visualization of oral mucosal abnormalities that may not be apparent or visible to the naked eye, such as oral cancer, premalignant dysplasia, and other oral tissue abnormalities.

The VELscope Vantage System functions by facilitating the direct visualization of tissue fluorescence and the changes in fluorescence that occur when abnormalities are present. The VELscope Vantage System emits a safe blue light into the oral cavity, causing tissue fluorescence from the surface of the epithelium through to the basement membrane, where pre-malignant changes typically start, and in the stroma beneath. The special optical filtering in the handpiece allows the dentist to immediately view the different fluorescence signatures from the oral tissue to help differentiate between normal and abnormal tissue.

Remember: early discovery is key. When caught at an early stage, oral cancer has an 80-90% survival rate. But only 35% of cases are diagnosed early. The VELscope Vantage System can help with early detection. Ask Dr. Williams about a screening during your next appointment.

  • Claris Intraoral Camera

An intraoral camera is an indispensable diagnostic and educational tool. The tiny device is a video camera that moves around inside the mouth and generates a tooth by tooth video exam of the mouth. These images can be stored, enlarged and even printed.

As it is nearly impossible to see inside your own mouth, intraoral cameras provide a previously unseen view. The pen-sized camera features a disposable cover to prevent contamination and is completely painless to use! As the camera moves around in your mouth, it sends video images to a computing unit where the images are enlarged and transmitted to a television screen.

With the images produced by the intraoral camera, patients can see each of their teeth and dentists can educate patients on problems such as broken teeth, defective crowns and fillings and even tooth decay.

    • Many dental problems can be caught in the early stages
    • Can be used to help show how dental procedures can enhance your smile
    • Once treatment options are discussed and agreed upon, intraoral cameras can be used to effectively track treatment progress
    • Images of tooth decay can be submitted along with dental insurance claims to maximize success

  • L.A.S.E.R

“LASER” is an acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. In essence, a laser produces a concentrated beam of laser energy that Dr. Williams utilizes in a wide array of dentistry procedures including gum tissue alteration.

Safety glasses will be used to protect your eyes from any harm. In many cases, the use of the laser instead of the drill or scalpel greatly reduces pain during the procedure. Depending on what you need and your pain tolerance, anesthesia is sometimes even unnecessary!

    • With cosmetic laser dentistry, Dr. Williams can perform laser bleaching and whiten your teeth up in just about an hour!
    • Cosmetic laser dentistry is also ideal for patients in need of dental bonding, which is used to repair minor chips, cracks or even breaks in teeth
    • Post-operative discomfort is minimized
    • Minimizes bleeding because the high-energy light beam aids in the clotting of exposed blood vessels, thus inhibiting blood loss
    • Reduces the occurrence of bacterial infections because the high-energy beam sterilizes the area being worked on
    • Waiting time to finish tooth fillings and crowns is reduced as lasers to expedite the curing process
